PUBLIC UTILITY WORKERS UNION OF TUC GHANA 12TH QUADRENNIAL NATIONAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE HELD IN KASOA.

Brother Micheal Adumatta Nyantakyi, the General Secretary of PUWU of TUC -Ghana addressing the occasion with the theme Responding the Union in the face of Emerging Challenges in the world of work.

Even though alot of things happened since their last delegates conference held  four years ago in Kumasi. So many changes are going on the global, national and enterprise level affecting workers and work in general. It is imperative that as a national union, we need to advert our minds to some of the key happenings and develop strategies that will help the union to face these emerging  challenges.

Over the years, PUWU has operated with the core state institutions namely Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, State Housing Company and Community Water and Sanitation Agency as well as Northern Region Rural Integrated Programme and recently Mensvic Hotel.

However, the organization of the workers within these institutions have been fairly effective but there is still the need for more to be done. There is the need to look beyond the public sector institutions as a way of repositioning the union to meet challenges ahead he added.

After that, the minister for employment and labour relations Hon Ignatius Baffour Awuah also added his keynote address that, the global dynamics confronting the future of work and the demand for a revision of plans, projects, programmes and activities of the union "REPOSITIONING THE UNION IN THE FACE OF EMERGING CHALLENGES IN THE WORLD OF WORK". Therefore your adoption of such a theme at such a time is most heartwarming and appropriate.

The sudden turn of events as a result of COVID 19 has brought in it's wake an urgent need to rethink the concept of work and work places. This is because science and technology are taking center stage in our attempts at re- engineering the world of work.

The era of over reliance on human capital in manufacturing industries, Agriculture and the Service Sectors among others is currently under threat. The times and seasons are rapidly changing to embrace new technologies and it is on the premise of this emerging trend that the PUWU of TUC Ghana should be highly commended for the vision of seriously considering repositioning the union on account of the changing dynamics.
