SUHUM: MCE WALKS OUT REPRESENTATIVE OF MP FROM ASSEMBLY'S MEETING

The Suhum municipal chief executive, Mrs Margaret Darko Darkwa seems not to patch a working relationship with the MP for the Constituency as his representative was driven out of Assembly's meeting by the MCE last Friday, 6th August, 2021.

Upon seeing the face of Mr Asiedu Isaac who has mostly been seen representing the MP at functions that the MP is not able to honour personally due to official engagements as MP, the MCE announced that no one would be allowed to be represented at the meeting and ordered the representative of the MP to walk out of the room before the commencement of the meeting.

This act by the MCE comes as a shock because it has been the usual practice when MPs are unable to attend assembly meetings, they are represented by their aides to take minutes of proceedings to abreast him of the Assembly's plans and activities.

The MP, Hon Oboafo Kwadjo Asante was in Parliament with colleague MPs on same day Friday, 6th August, 2021 to end the second meeting of the first session of the 8th Parliament. Such sittings in Parliament are so crucial that the MP couldn't sacrifice the national interest to attend the Assembly's meeting where he could be represented. Sittings of this kind could be met by bills considerations and wrapping up some parliamentary documentations which might need voting or consensus, and at a time when Parliament is so balanced with numbers with respect to minority and majority, it would be so inappropriate to absent yourself from Parliament just to attend Assembly's meeting.

Most of the assembly members who were present were embarrassed by the action taken by the MCE. They considered the actions as uncalled for and needless and have the tendency of slowing development since the MP has a role to play with the MCE to accelerate development in the municipality.

Some assembly members have called to render an unqualified apology to the MP and Mr Asiedu Isaac after the meeting.
