PROFESSOR SAMUEL NII ODAI HAS BEEN SWEARING IN AS FIRST SUBSTANTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR OF ACCRA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Professor Ralph Kingston Asabere who is the governing council of the school in his statement address to the media that Professor Samuel Nii Odai is a person of great intellect, wide experience, solid back ground in Ghanaian, Africa and a global educational matters. He is well abreast of the nitty gritty of university administration from his records as a new vice chancellor of Accra Technical University.
He however encourage the new vice chancellor Professor Samuel Nii Odai that the university expectations are understandably high and therefore you have a very daunting task of loverage on the foundations already in place, add and consolidate the gains to put the university on a higher pedestal .
Professor Edmund Ameko who is the out gone Acting Vice Chancellor also add up that Professor Samuel Nii Odai as the first substantive vice chancellor of Accra technical university which is the oldest, largest and the premier Technical University in Ghana it is a privilege. He urge that what has been always been his mind as the acting vice chancellor of the school is that write the vision and make it plan, so that anyone who reads it may run with it.
Finally the new vice chancellor Professor Samuel Nii Odai shows acknowledgement to the board of the school Accra Technical University for making such a wonderful day a memorable day he will not forget . This year makes 70th Anniversary of Accra Technical University, he will work towards transitioning the university from its previous polytechnic status, to consolidate its leadership as a premier Technical University offering programmes with high impact on industry and business creation.
We plan to drive this vision through seven strategic goals .
1. Drive impact oriented research and innovation for national development.
2. Enhance students experience through developing and delivering quality programmes to prepare students for the world
3. Strengthen industrial and community engagement through continuously pursuing joint research and training with impact on industry and society.
4. Develop key international collaborations to boost ATU's reputation and visibility.
5. Develop infrastructure and systems that ATU's technical university status .
6. Streamline mobilization and prudent management of financing resources.
7. Ensure quality and motivated human resources at all levels to drive ATU's vision.
Professor Samuel Nii Odai said, reading unemployment graduates association, friends and brothers losing their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea is heat wrecking. He therefore submit that Africa to be truly beyond aid, we must relook at our educational systems to make our graduates globally competitive and locally useful. Therefore, the second strategic goal which is "Enhancing students' experience through developing and delivering quality programmes to prepare students for the world of work."
