THE MINISTER FOR GENDER, CHILDREN AND SOCIAL PROTECTION HAS OPENED SECOND FACE OF LEAP DISBURSEMENT TODAY MONDAY, 30TH JUNE 2025, FOR THE 96TH CYCLE LEAP CASH GRANT NATIONWIDE

Hon Dr Naa Momo Lartey who is the Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection has interacted with the media on the disbursement of the LEAP cash grant. The 96th cycle disbursement which was started from March and April 2025 cash grant to beneficiary households of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, which is under the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
H.E. John Dramani Mahama is determined to reduce the cost of living by making the right and appropriate decisions to stimulate Ghana's economic growth and development for all, also the Government is taking measures to enhance the real value of the LEAP cash grant benefit) and its impact on a range of development indicators such as nutrition, health, schooling, investment and inclusion in productive activities.
The Hon Minister said to achieve these, the Government through the Gender Ministry has open the 96th cycle payment to commenced the implementation of the “indexation of the LEAP cash grant against inflation leading to gradual adjustment in policies and therefore reduce the impact of shocks. This is to ensure that the real value of the benefit to households is eroded.
She said ,cash grants for one eligible member household has increased from two-hundred and fifty-six Ghana cedis (GH₵256.00) to three-hundred and twenty Ghana cedis (GH₵320.00). The amount for two eligible member households increased from three hundred and four Ghana cedis (GH₵304.00) to three hundred and eighty Ghana cedis (GH₵380.00). Whiles the amount for three eligible member households has increased from three and fifty-two Ghana cedis (GH₵352.00) to four hundred and forty Ghana cedis (GH₵440.00).
Finally, the amount for four or more eligible member households has increased from four hundred twenty-four Ghana cedis (GH₵424.00) to five hundred and thirty Ghana cedis (GH₵530.00).
Given the indexation of the LEAP grant, the Government has allocated GH₵953.5 million to the LEAP Programme in the 2025 budget; a significant increase as against the 2024 allocation of Ghc728.8 million.
Additionally, approval has been granted to increase the number of beneficiary Households from the current Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand (350,000) to Four Hundred Thousand (400,000). The ongoing reassessment exercise will assist in achieving the target of 400,000 beneficiary households for the Programme in subsequent disbursements.
In the specific case of the 96th cycle disbursement, the Government has released One Hundred and Thirty-Nine Million, Two Hundred and Fifty-Seven Thousand, Three Hundred and Six Three Ghana Cedis, Ninety-Seven Pesewas (GH₵139,257,363.97). This amount will be disbursed to Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand (350,000) LEAP beneficiary households in 260 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
The nationwide disbursement commenced, Monday, 23rd of June 2025.
Each household on the programme is paid according to the extremely poor and the number of persons with vulnerability. The category of persons with vulnerability are Orphans and Vulnerable Children: The Elderly (65 years and above) without support; Persons with Severe disability who cannot easily work; and extremely poor pregnant women and lactating mothers with infants under 1 year.
Hon Momo urged LEAP beneficiary households to prioritize household nutrition, children's education, and investment in income-generating activities. They should equally begin to adopt a savings culture based on clear household consumption needs and goals. These efforts will go a long way to reduce poverty and contribute to the realization of the programme’s social protective objectives and related Sustainable Development Goals.
