The constitutionally mandated exercise by the Electoral Commission to register Ghanaians who have turned eighteen this year and those for some reasons have never gotten the opportunity to register, has so far ran smoothly despite some pockets of hitches which it's effect on the exercise is insignificant.
The Ambassadors of Free SHS took some time off their busy schedules to visit some offices of the electoral commission where these limited voters registration exercises are taking place in the Eastern region.
The team were not surprised at all to find the registration centers full of SHS students who are partaking in the exercise. Your guess is as good as the thinkers.
The Ambassadors of Free SHS decided to interact with these students who for the first time taking part in this exercise. Well, apart from using the voter's card to perform various transactions including registration of mobile money Sim cards, the Ambassadors of Free SHS recorded over eighty five percent (85%) of the students during the interaction not for the purpose of transaction but to support their parents and guardians to retain free SHS.
Some students who allowed for recordings pleaded with their parents and Ghanaians not to let the opportunity they are enjoying now in the SHS elude their younger brothers and sisters yet to get to the SHS. According to them they are in full support of the implementation of the Free SHS and as beneficiaries, the only way to show their appreciation is to append their tomb print in support of it by acquiring their voters card and vote for it's continuation.
One girl who for anonymousness sake wouldn't reveal her identity sent all including herself into tears when she narrated her sad story of never believed to attend SHS even if an angel had prophesised to her considering her parents background financially. It is for this singular reason that they have trooped out in their numbers to take part in the limited voters registration exercise.
In a related development, some of the students who have come to take part in the exercise confided in the Ambassadors of Free SHS, that some teachers in their school who are perceived to be against the Free SHS are discouraging the students not to take part in the exercise. According to them some teachers even threaten them should they go and register. They pleaded with the Ambassadors of Free SHS to find ways of getting students who because of fear of some teachers' threats are not able to come and register to come and do so.
The Ambassadors of Free SHS assured them of getting everyone who is of age eighteen and above to exercise their constitutional rights. The Ambassadors of Free SHS use this opportunity to warn all teachers who for their interest disallowing or discouraging students who are of age to register to desist from that or face the full regours of the law.
